From TikTok to the Classroom: Revyze Raises €5.5 Million to Engage Generation Z with Its App

Guillaume Perrot, CEO of REVYZE

Your teenagers are juggling between TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat? This is the playground for the French startup Revyze, which is reinventing after-school tutoring with a format that speaks their language. With over 1 million users and content generating more than 150 million views, Revyze has established itself as an effective educational alternative.

“We wanted to create the TikTok of education,” says Guillaume Perrot, co-founder and CEO of Revyze. With short, engaging videos and well-structured learning capsules, Revyze does more than just attract students: it encourages them to come back regularly, a significant challenge in the world of educational apps.

Capsules: A Remedy for Video Overload
Revyze introduced its “capsules,” a more organized and progression-oriented format. Designed as mini-thematic courses, the capsules mix videos, quizzes, and summaries, offering users a sense of accomplishment with each completed module. This approach is designed to support students continuously, even outside of intense exam periods.

Gamification also plays a key role in retaining users. By accumulating virtual coins, students can unlock new capsules and set personal goals through daily quizzes, similar to Duolingo’s streak system.

Revyze doesn’t rely solely on its founders to create content. A large part of its popularity comes from its growing network of content creators: teachers, bright students, or educational enthusiasts. “It’s fascinating to see a 15-year-old student collaborating with a 45-year-old teacher to produce videos that help others better understand a subject,” explains Sciberras. This diversity within the creator community is one of Revyze’s most unique aspects: a peer-to-peer educational approach.

This creator-partner model also allows top contributors to monetize their content. For the most prolific creators, the ability to earn a share of the revenue generated by their capsules increases engagement and ensures high-quality content.

The American Challenge: Learning from Failures to Succeed
While Revyze quickly won over middle and high school students in France, its expansion to the U.S. has encountered some hurdles. The team found that, unlike in France, American students did not use the app as consistently outside of exam periods.

Adjustments include more personalized content for American standardized tests like the SAT. However, the key to success in the U.S. could be the community-driven approach that has already been tested in France.

Revyze announced it raised €5.5 million in a seed funding round, led by Speedinvest and Moonfire, with participation from notable tech figures such as Ilkka Paananen (co-founder of Supercell), Riccardo Zacconi and Sebastian Knutsson (co-founders of King), and Nickey Skarstad from Duolingo. This funding adds to the €2 million previously raised in 2022 during a pre-seed round, bringing the total to €7.5 million. The new capital will allow Revyze to accelerate its international expansion, particularly in the U.S., and improve its platform.
