MAMBU acquires French startup NUMERAL, a specialist in large-scale banking payments

In 2022, the total value of banking payments in the Eurozone reached €191 trillion, 58 times higher than card payments. These volumes highlight significant potential for players capable of automating and modernizing payment infrastructures.

Financial institutions are increasingly turning to solutions capable of handling complex, large-scale payments. Startups like Numeral, which FRENCHWEB.FR previously covered during their seed round, play a key role by offering universal gateways to connect banks with payment schemes and automating payment flows. The French startup, founded in 2021, has quickly become a recognized player, working with banks like BNP Paribas, HSBC, BELFIUS, and Barclays. Within a year, NUMERAL quintupled the volume of transactions processed through its platform.

Integrating advanced payment solutions not only reduces costs but also improves user experience and accelerates the development of new products. Instant payments have become a critical requirement, driving demand for modular APIs and interoperable platforms.

Mambu, a leader in cloud banking founded in 2011 with over €385 million raised, has acquired Numeral. This strategic move allows Mambu to expand its offering by integrating advanced payment capabilities. Numeral’s platform will be directly embedded into Mambu’s ecosystem, providing banks and fintechs with tools to automate payment flows and meet the growing demands for instant payments.

The transaction amount has not been disclosed. Numeral had raised €13 million six months after its inception, with investors including BALDERTON and business angels like Guillaume Princen (MOONCARD) and Alexandre Prot (QONTO).
