The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) imposes new sustainability reporting requirements on European companies starting in 2026. This regulation has led to a surge in demand for audit services, compounded by a shortage of qualified auditors. Rotterdam-based startup Engyon is addressing this challenge with an automation platform tailored to sustainability audits.
Founded in 2024 by Berend Berendsen, Gerben Bas, and Joachim Arts, Engyon has developed a next-generation SaaS platform designed to streamline audits and assurance tasks for sustainability reporting. The solution automates repetitive processes, enabling auditors to focus on strategic analysis. Key features in development include risk assessments, automated checks, data analysis, and fraud detection.
In 2024, Engyon partnered with five accounting firms to validate its concept. By January 2025, the company launched an Early Access program involving 15 firms. This program, which will run until July 2025, sets the stage for expansion in the Netherlands and other European countries. Engyon aims to become the European standard for audit automation within three years.
To support its growth, Engyon raised €1M in a seed funding round led by the Graduate Entrepreneur Fund, a Dutch fund established in 2021 with €58M under management. The funds will be used to strengthen the R&D team and prepare for international expansion. Engyon’s goal is to provide an integrated solution that meets the increasing needs of companies and audit firms for efficient CSRD compliance.
